Having listened to the decades playlists on Spotify so many times I came across Spotify Taste Rewind. Like their send of year review, Taste Rewind looks at your listening history and finds you tracks that fit your listening tastes if you were around throughout the decades.

The playlists generated are categorised into 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. That’s five whole new playlists of musical glory to get your ears listening and feet tapping along to. The playlists are short but who cares – music is music, and sometimes its nice to hear things you may not have considered based on your existing taste.

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you’ll know I’m a massive music buff and I love a good playlist. My daily playlist grows by up to five songs per day so that’s just an inclination as to how much abuse my Spotify account gets, and how much of a musical education my neighbours endure.

So, if you’re looking for a new playlist from a specific decade, skip the pregrenerated Spotify ones and let them generate ones specific to your current taste. Give Taste Rewind a try and check out what they suggested for myself below.

This is the shortest out of all the playlists at just six songs but it’s incredibly easy to listen to. Never will I tire of hearing the classic sounds of Motown, the voice of Frank Sinatra and singing The Temptations in the shower on a Sunday morning. This is a playlist for those lazy days of chilling on the sofa and letting the day just pass you by.

Featuring 11 tracks from the decade of the Peace Movement there are some real classics in this playlist. Opening with Roberta by Billy Joel all the way down to Huey Newton, there is a mish-mash of different sounds and vibes that will transport you to the time of free love.

I may have narrowly missed out on being an 80s kid by a year or two but I’ve loved the pop culture of the decade since I can remember. Here you get a glimpse of the change in music from rock and punk to old skool hip-hop and rap with the likes of the Beastie Boys.

Hello Generation X! Full of angst and my biased 90s greatness Spotify really put together a eclectic collection of tunes. I’m guilty that I haven’t listened to many of them before but that’s the brilliance of generators like this, you uncover so much more than your usual Discover Weekly or decade playlists.

I recognise more people on this playlist than any others. If a playlist starts with Lupe Fiasco and features Shywaze then I am sold. Again, losts of different artists appear here from all genres – but what can you expect when they noughties is the most recent decade? There’s far too much to choose from!
